Osoyoos Indian Band

Osoyoos Indian Band, in partnership with Bellstar Hotels & Resorts, will commence development of the spirit Ridge Residence club in early 2010. The $35 million, 45-unit luxury resort development expansion, along with an exclusive clubhouse, will add to the master-planned NK’MIP Resort development by the Osoyoos Indian Band.

The expansion of the resort development was announced in October at the opening of the international forum “Building a Better Canada Through First Nations economies” and the NK’MIP conference centre grand opening celebration.

Clarence Louie, speaking on the occasion of the meeting of over 200 business-minded chiefs and corporate minded leaders from across Canada and Washington state to discuss ways to jump start the First Nations economy, stated that “now that we have successfully completed spirit Ridge Vineyard
Resort & spa and the NK’MIP conference centre, we are taking things to the next level by announcing the development of the spirit Ridge Residence club.”

The international forum, Building a Better Canada Through First Nations economies, was held October 22 in Osoyoos at the OIB’s new NK’MIP conference centre, part of the Band’s award-winning spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort and spa at NK’MIP Resort.

The single most important key to First Nation independence and self-reliance is economic development, said Chief Louie, the CEO of the Osoyoos Indian Band Development corporation and chair of the National aboriginal economic Development Board. We need to go after more business partnerships. The forum is about finding ways to create jobs and make money together on reserves.
